NSGF Chairman Decries Plateau Attacks, Commiserates with Victims’ Families and Government
...Rallies Support for Peace and Unity in the Region
The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has strongly condemned the recent deadly attacks on Ruwi, Manguna, Daffo, Josho, and Hurti communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the incidents as senseless, barbaric, and a threat to the unity and stability of the region.
The attacks, which reportedly claimed several lives and left scores—mostly women and children—injured, have drawn widespread concern and condemnation.
In a statement issued in Gombe, Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed deep sorrow over the tragic events and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the government and people of Plateau State.
He lamented the continued violence plaguing rural communities across Northern Nigeria, particularly the consistent loss of innocent lives, describing it as a stain on the conscience of the nation.
“The sanctity of human life must never be taken for granted. These heinous attacks on innocent people are totally unacceptable and must be condemned by all,”
– Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya
The NSGF Chairman commended Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, for his prompt response and proactive steps in addressing the aftermath of the attacks. He also acknowledged the efforts of security agencies for their swift intervention to restore peace in the affected areas.
However, Governor Inuwa Yahaya urged security operatives to intensify their efforts in tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring that justice is served.
He emphasized the importance of tolerance, dialogue, and peacebuilding, especially among farming and herding communities, and reaffirmed the commitment of Northern Governors to working collectively to tackle insecurity and promote social cohesion.
“As Northern Governors, we will continue to take deliberate steps to end this cycle of violence by strengthening security collaboration, promoting dialogue, and implementing inclusive policies that foster unity and peaceful coexistence,”
– Governor Inuwa Yahaya
He also called on community leaders, religious institutions, and civil society organizations to complement government efforts by promoting peace, tolerance, and forgiveness—stressing that no meaningful development can thrive in an atmosphere of violence and fear.
