Gombe Governor Inuwa Yahaya Mourns Elder Statesman Ahmed Excellent Abubakar

Gombe, Nigeria – April 7, 2025 — Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has paid glowing tribute to elder statesman and distinguished public servant, Ahmed Excellent Abubakar, popularly known as the Dallatun Gombe, who passed away recently.

Describing the late Abubakar as a “seasoned technocrat, visionary reformer, and patriotic Nigerian,” Governor Yahaya said his death is a monumental loss to Gombe State and the nation at large.

“He was deeply committed to public service and played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s civil service and development path,” the governor said.

Governor Yahaya extended his condolences to the Malam Gana family, the Gombe Emirate Council, and the deceased’s associates, praying for Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannat Firdaus and forgive his shortcomings.

Tribute to a National Figure

Ahmed Excellent Abubakar had a storied career in the federal civil service, serving as Undersecretary and Secretary in key ministries, including the Federal Ministries of Defence and Communications. He also served at the Presidency in Dodan Barracks during the military administration of General Yakubu Gowon.

Notably, he was one of the pioneers involved in the establishment of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in April 1977. He later served as Commissioner for Finance in the old Bauchi State from 1980 to 1983 during the Second Republic.

To honor his legacy, Governor Yahaya sent a delegation led by the Head of Civil Service, Ahmed Kasimu Abdullahi, to represent him at the funeral prayer held at the Emir’s Palace in Gombe.

The governor concluded his message by acknowledging the late Abubakar’s enduring contributions to public service, stating that his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of leaders and civil servants.
