Governor Inuwa Yahaya Calls for Unity, Action to Overcome Northern Challenges
Receives Arewa Consultative Forum Leadership, Pledges Support for Regional Development
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has made a passionate call for unity, visionary leadership, and collective action to tackle the pressing challenges facing Northern Nigeria.
Speaking at the Government House, Gombe, while receiving the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) leadership, the Governor emphasized the urgent need to overcome ethno-religious and political differences to drive sustainable growth.
"The North Has No Excuse for Underdevelopment" – Governor Yahaya
Governor Yahaya, who also chairs the Northern States Governors’ Forum, stressed that with the region’s vast human and natural resources, there is no justification for stagnation.
"We still see ourselves as one people because the bonds of unity built over time, from the colonial era through the days of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, remain unshaken. No one can dismantle what has been nurtured for generations overnight," he declared.
Despite global economic difficulties, he assured that Northern leaders are committed to implementing strong policies that will spur prosperity and development.
Northern Governors Back ACF, Pledge Support for 25th Anniversary
Governor Yahaya pledged full support for the ACF’s activities, including preparations for its 25th anniversary, reaffirming the Northern Governors’ commitment to strengthening the Forum’s role in regional development.
Tax Reform: A Step Toward Economic Fairness
On tax reform, the Governor noted that periodic law reviews are necessary to adapt to economic realities and ensure fair competition among regions. While the National Assembly continues its legislative work on the matter, the Northern Governors have stated their position and addressed key concerns.
ACF Leadership Lauds Governor’s Commitment
ACF Board of Trustees Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu (Wazirin Dutse), led the delegation, commending Governor Yahaya’s leadership and support in advancing regional cooperation.
Similarly, ACF Chairman Mamman Mike Osman praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing development commissions for the North-West and North-Central regions, calling them "game-changers" for the North’s economic revival.
"If proactively and sensibly addressed, these commissions will help restore the North to its former days of glory," Osman noted.
