Pledges Greater Support for Tertiary Education in Gombe
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the commencement of degree programs at the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gombe, calling it a significant step in expanding the institution’s capacity to train future professionals.
The governor made this remark while receiving the Governing Council and Management of the College at the Government House, Gombe.
Commitment to Youth Development and Education
Governor Yahaya emphasized that Nigeria’s greatest asset is its youth, with about 65% of the population under the age of 30. He stressed the importance of providing quality education and technical skills to reduce dependence on foreign expertise and enhance national development.
"If given the necessary training and empowerment, they will develop the country and reduce our reliance on foreign nations for skilled labor," he stated.
To strengthen higher education in Gombe, the governor highlighted ongoing initiatives, including:
✅ Establishing the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at Gombe State University’s Dukku campus.
✅ Partnering with Michigan University to establish a Faculty of Agriculture.
Infrastructure and Institutional Support
Governor Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the college, citing the 22-kilometer gully erosion control project that has benefited the institution and surrounding communities. He also directed the Commissioner for Higher Education to engage with the college’s leadership to identify priority areas for further intervention.
"In addition to the gully erosion control project covering about 22 km across numerous communities in Gombe metropolis, we will also consider putting more structures in the college," he assured.

The Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Lazarus Gaza, praised Governor Yahaya’s significant investment in education and continuous support for federal tertiary institutions in the state.
He emphasized the college’s:
