Dogara Calls on Tinubu to Revive Bauchi Oil Exploration and Bagel Dam Project to Boost Development and Secure 2027 Support

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize two key projects in Bauchi State—reviving oil exploration and commencing the construction of the Bagel Dam in Dass LGA. Speaking at the commissioning of a road project in Toro LGA on Saturday, Dogara argued that these initiatives would drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve infrastructure, positioning Bauchi as a major economic hub.

Addressing the audience, Dogara framed the projects as a political game-changer, stating that their execution would guarantee the people's support for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

"If President Tinubu awards and starts the Bagel Dam project and revisits oil exploration in Bauchi, does he even need to campaign here for 2027? If you agree, say ‘Yes,’” he challenged the crowd, which responded with resounding approval.

Dogara emphasized that the Bagel multipurpose dam would provide electricity to all local governments in Bauchi South, driving industrialization and boosting the local economy. He also highlighted the economic benefits of oil production, noting that joining the league of oil-producing states would significantly increase federal revenue allocation to Bauchi.

He dismissed claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was losing ground in Bauchi, asserting that the party remained strong despite being in opposition at the state level. "APC is very much alive in Bauchi. Those who think otherwise are only deceiving themselves. When the time comes, we will take back the state,” he declared.

While Dogara stopped short of making outright political declarations, his remarks positioned these development projects as a key bargaining chip for Tinubu’s reelection campaign. Whether the federal government will act on these demands remains to be seen, but the call has reignited discussions about Bauchi’s role in Nigeria’s economic future.
