Bauchi Group Defends Ribadu, Calls for Northern Unity

From;Abdulwahab Muhammad, Bauchi

Bauchi—The Chairman of the Bauchi Transformation Agenda, Hon. Abdullahi Shu’aibu, has criticized the lack of support among Northerners for their own, particularly those from the Northeast, saying such attitudes hinder regional development.

Speaking to journalists in Bauchi on Friday, Shu’aibu reacted to the recent wave of criticisms against National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, describing them as unjustified and divisive. He expressed concern that Northerners often work against their own, preventing the region from achieving collective progress.

"Anytime a citizen from the Northeast attains a national role, some Northerners are the first to undermine or reject him. This attitude breeds division and prevents us from moving forward," he said.

Shu’aibu specifically referenced criticism from political activist Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed against Ribadu, arguing that such attacks do not contribute to regional unity. He urged Northern leaders, including Naja’atu, to focus on strengthening solidarity rather than fostering discord.

"The North must come together as a united and formidable force to pursue common goals for the benefit of all," he stressed.

He further lamented that issues such as internal conflicts and lack of cooperation have left the North without strong and authentic leadership.

"Whatever one may think of the NSA’s past actions, they are part of history. We should focus on progress rather than dwelling on past grievances," he concluded.

The criticism of Ribadu comes amid broader debates about leadership and political influence in the North, where internal divisions have often weakened regional cohesion.
