The North East Development Commission (NEDC) set out to rebuild 14 collapsed bridges,culverts in Yobe state.

The Commission’s Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, disclosed this while assessing the bridges at Garin Gada and said that culverts on the Damaturu-Daptchi road have been washed off by the surging floods that lasted for five days.
He further stated that the collapsed bridges on Katarko-Gujba, Potiskum-Jakusko-Gashua, Damaturu-Geidam and the 130km Damaturu-Biu roads, are to be rebuilt to link the cut off communities in the state.
He laments that since the washing off of the bridges and culverts, motorists and residents, including farmers, could not access markets, hospitals and farmlands to haulage their crops hence the support to rebuild the bridges in the state.
Furthermore,Alkali pointed out that the Commission would open the roads for commuting and other business activities in the communities, including the border areas with Niger.
The NEDC team also visited the flood ravaging communities and sympathized with them
“Today’s assessment visits of roads was to support the state government, by rebuilding all the damaged roads infrastructures,” Alkali said.
The NEDC boss, assured the Yobe state government that the commission would partner with the federal government to complete the four affected roads in the state.
Mr Alkali also assured the affected communities that he would present their complaints to the federal government.
Alkali announced the commission's commitments towards addressing economic hardships caused by the floods, and explained the need for a timely intervention to improve the living conditions of the people.
Alkali also extended his condolences to the people affected in the flood and urged them to consider the disasters to life and property, as an act of Allah.
